Stella May Contracting has a Corporate Safety Program that promotes the health and well-being of all its employees. Many in the industry are familiar with Heinrich’s loss control triangle, which is built on the mathematical relationships that exist between the numbers of accidents of similar types and their severity. He found that for every 300 near-miss incidents, 29 minor injuries and one major injury are likely to result. This point is important to Stella May Contracting – we understand that by reducing the frequency of workplace and site near-misses, we can also reduce the probability of minor and major injuries. In support of this goal, Stella May Contracting addresses safety with a three-tiered approach that includes implementing engineering controls, implementing management controls, and requiring personal protective equipment.

• Engineering Controls: We design the work environment and the job itself to eliminate hazards or reduce exposure to hazards as much as possible. This is exemplified in our detailed job hazard analysis and resultant risk mitigation plans for each project.
• Management Controls: We make an active effort to improve the way our employees perform their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, changing work habits and improving sanitation and hygiene best practices.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): PPE is required when we believe that exposure to hazards cannot be engineered entirely out of normal operations or maintenance work, or when safe work practices and administrative controls cannot provide sufficient additional protection from exposure.
